Sculptra, Ellansé or Juläine: which collagen stimulator is right for you?

If you have been researching collagen stimulating treatments, you have probably come across all three of these names and wondered what actually separates them. It is a fair question. All three work with your body rather than against it, and all three sit within what I call the Regenerate edit: treatments that rebuild rather than simply fill. But they are not interchangeable, and the right choice depends entirely on what your skin needs.
Here is how I think about the differences, and how I choose between them for my own patients.
What they have in common
Before the differences, it is worth being clear about the shared ground. Sculptra, Ellansé and Juläine are all collagen biostimulators. None of them work by simply adding volume and sitting there. Instead, each one encourages your own fibroblasts, the cells responsible for producing collagen, to get back to work.
None of the three can be dissolved, which is exactly why I only recommend them after a proper consultation rather than a plan sold on the day. And none of them are suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you have an underlying autoimmune or connective tissue condition. Because your skin's response to a biostimulator can be unpredictable in those circumstances, this is not a discussion point for me, it is a firm no.
Sculptra: the original, and still the benchmark for structure
Sculptra is made from poly L lactic acid, or PLLA, and has over two decades of data behind it. I think of it as a seed rather than a filler. Placed carefully beneath the skin, it prompts your body to lay down new collagen gradually, restoring structure and volume with real subtlety.
My approach with Sculptra is layered. I work laterally across both the face and the neck to build genuine structural volume, and I also use a hyperdiluted version of the same product in the neck, décolletage and arms, where the goal is firmer, better quality skin rather than any added volume at all.
Sculptra suits you if you have mild to moderate volume loss, particularly in the cheeks, temples or lower face, and you are happy to be patient while a gradual, natural result builds over three to six months. Results typically last two years or more.
Ellansé: volume now, and collagen that keeps building
Ellansé is different in one important way: it does not ask you to wait. Its CMC gel carrier gives an immediate, natural looking lift, while the polycaprolactone microspheres it contains go on to activate both your collagen producing fibroblasts and your skin's own fat stem cells, through a gentle, low inflammation process. Over the following weeks, this rebuilds the skin's internal scaffolding from within.
There are two formulations, Ellansé S and Ellansé M. They are placed in exactly the same way, in the same layers, the only difference between them is the length of the polymer chain, which is what determines how long the result lasts rather than where or how deep it is injected. I have worked with Ellansé for over thirteen years and train practitioners in it internationally, so I know its behaviour extremely well.
Ellansé is used only in the face, and suits early to moderate volume loss in the cheeks, temples, jawline or chin. Within the Regenerate edit, it is my answer whenever someone wants volume that shows immediately and then continues to improve, rather than the purely gradual build of Sculptra or Juläine's tightening without any added volume. Results typically last around two years.
Juläine: the gentlest option, and the one for tightening without volume
Juläine is the newest of the three, built on the same PLLA foundation as Sculptra but refined through LASYNPRO technology into high purity, uniform microspheres. The result is a softer integration and a smoother recovery, working through a particularly low inflammatory pathway.
What makes Juläine distinct is that it is not really about adding volume at all. It is my treatment of choice when the priority is tightening and laxity, or when someone has experienced long term facial deflation and wants their structure restored in a soft, natural way rather than filled. It also has a growing place after rapid GLP-1 related weight loss, where volume has been lost quickly and the skin needs support to catch up. Juläine can be used more broadly than Ellansé, across the face, neck and décolletage.
A typical course is two to three treatments, four to eight weeks apart, with results continuing to improve for twelve to twenty four months as your own collagen and elastin rebuild.
So which one is right for you?
If you want to know exactly how these three compare on the practical questions patients actually ask me:
Do you want to see a change straight away, or are you happy to wait for it? Ellansé gives an immediate lift alongside its gradual collagen build. Sculptra and Juläine both work purely gradually, with no instant volume at all.
Are you looking for added volume, or for tightening without volume? Sculptra and Ellansé are both about restoring structure and volume. Juläine is about tightening and improving skin quality without adding bulk, which is why it is often the right choice when volume is not actually the problem.
Where is the concern? Ellansé is a face only treatment. Sculptra's hyperdiluted technique and Juläine can both be used more broadly, including the neck and décolletage.
How much correction do you need? For more pronounced structural loss, Sculptra tends to give the most noticeable lift. For a softer, more refined finish, or if you simply want to feel like the best version of your own skin rather than visibly "done", Juläine is often gentler and better suited.
Have you recently lost weight quickly, particularly on a GLP-1 medication? This is one of the clearest indications for Juläine, where deflation needs gentle, gradual structural support.
My approach
I do not rely on any single treatment to change a face, and I would be doing you a disservice if I recommended one of these based on what is trending rather than what your skin actually needs. In practice, I often use these treatments alongside skinboosters, polynucleotides, radiofrequency, microneedling, lasers and prescription strength skincare, always starting from an honest assessment of your skin's health rather than jumping straight to a plan.
Foundations before decorations remains the principle behind all of it. If you are unsure which of these suits you, that is exactly what a consultation is for. I would rather talk you out of the wrong treatment than talk you into one you do not need.
Every treatment begins with a private consultation, never a plan sold at first visit. Available across London, the New Forest and Bournemouth.
